We've hand-picked these items because they are a great choice alongside the Clearwater Auriga Single Lever Mono Kitchen Tap With Pull Out Spray - Polished Chrome

How many times have you wished for a pull out kitchen tap in your home, only to be put off by the gargantuan pull out taps that look more at home in a commercial kitchen? Some of these taps are more than half a metre tall, dwarfing all but the biggest kitchen sinks and making using them extremely tricky, especially for children. In recent years, however, there has been a steady stream of pull out kitchen taps that look just like, well, a kitchen tap. To the untrained eye, the Clearwater Auriga looks just like any 'standard' kitchen tap, however, on closer inspection it becomes clear that it is so much more.

The Clearwater Auriga has a chrome-plated plastic pull out spout and 700mm pull out hose with two functions, "cascade" and "needle spray." The cascade function is perfect for cleaning your sink or worktop area from any debris, whereas the needle jet function offers a rain-like flow which is perfect for rinsing fruit and veg. The length of the pull out hose and the 360° swivel spout means that it's also entirely possible for you to water plants that you may have on a kitchen windowsill or fill up a bucket of water without having to lift the bucket up to the sink. The possibilities and practicalities of a pull out tap really are endless.

To allow it to blend in with any kitchen décor, the Auriga is finished in stunning polished chrome which is both long-lasting if well looked after, and easy to clean. It also has a large single lever control. This is not only in keeping with the Auriga's simple, elegant styling, but it also serves a practical purpose as well, as having just a single lever makes it easy to control both the flow and the temperature of the water with just one hand.

As with all Clearwater taps, the Auriga has ceramic disc cartridges to control the flow of water. These are tested for 200,000 cycles before being given the all clear to be used in Clearwater taps, giving you peace of mind that this is not just a tap that has built to be stylish, but one that has been built to last as well.

Tap aerators are simple but beautifully-engineered devices that save water and money without a perceived loss of pressure. These small attachments are inserted inside the end of the spout and provide a regulated, smoothed and aerated flow of water by separating a single flow into many tiny streams. These streams mix with air as they flow from the tap, meaning less water is needed to achieve the same 'feel' and performance as non-aerated taps.

They can also be purchased separately and retrofitted to most taps, or they can usually be uninstalled if not wanted. They're a great benefit on high pressure systems where the full flow of water is unnecessary, cutting your water bills and helping to reduce wastage. On lower-pressure systems they can help to improve the performance of a tap by adding air to the limited flow of water available. All-in-all, they're pretty awesome.
Taps use either a ceramic disc cartridge or a rubber compression washer to control flow. Rubber washers will naturally wear down with use, and the tap handle will require more and more rotations to turn on or off. On the plus side, it's very easy to replace a rubber washer and they're available everywhere.

Ceramic disc cartridges need only a 90-degree rotation to fully open or close, and the 2 ceramic plates are incredibly hard-wearing and resilient. They're more expensive to make, but they allow for a huge range of designs, easy operation and simple maintenance if needed.

Whilst it is rare for a ceramic cartridge to need replacing, you may very occasionally need to remove and rinse the cartridge if grit or debris within the water system is preventing the 2 plates from closing properly. Much like replacing a rubber washer, this is a quick and easy job, and will ensure many years of use.

This is the minimum recommended hole diameter that this tap needs for installation. Generally, the tap will sit on top of the sink or worktop, and the hot and cold water feeds and fixing bolts will need to slot through the tap hole and be connected underneath. Your hole can be a bit larger than this size, provided it is not larger than the diameter of the base of the tap.

Minimum Water Pressure

Your water pressure depends on your home's water system. It’s important to consider water pressure when buying a new tap or shower. Buying a product with a minimum water pressure that’s too high for your home will result in poor performance.

- With a combi boiler you can usually expect between 1 and 2 bar

- With a gravity system (cold water tank in attic) you may have as little as 0.1 or 0.2 bar upstairs, and perhaps 0.5 bar downstairs

- With a high pressure unvented system (hot water cylinder, no cold water tank) you will generally have between 1 and 3 bar

You can install an item with a low minimum pressure rating on a high pressure system, but avoid installing an item with a high minimum rating on a low pressure system! Read our guide to water pressure to learn more.
